About Us

Sideways Honey Co. was started in 2020 by Brett and Sharon.  Over the last 4 years It has grown from a hobby into a husband & wife small business producing quality honey and beeswax products that we are always keen to share with our customers, many of whom are repeat customers.

We only harvest the surplus honey twice a year in Spring and at the end of Summer.  The rest of the honey is left for the bees. As Beekeepers we manage the bee colonies to ensure, that most importantly the bees are happy and healthy whist remaining productive.

Our honey is predominantly seasonal wildflower honey; it’s 100% pure Suffolk honey with minimal filtration (just enough to retain the good bits!), and not heat treated (pasteurised); that way we retain all the purity and goodness as the bees intended.

We can be found at local farmers markets and food events around south Suffolk most weekends and we are always very happy to meet our customers to talk about the bees and their honey, you are always welcome to taste before you buy.  Our roadside stall in Belstead is open most days throughout the year, weather dependent; if it’s closed, we always welcome a polite knock on the door to see if we have any honey for sale. We work closely with other local beekeepers to ensure our honey is available to purchase online at any time (stock dependant).

Our mission is to maintain healthy bees and provide the highest quality Suffolk Honey and Beeswax products that we can.

Brett's is a BBKA Qualified Beekeeper; his role is the practical side of our beekeeping and apiary management. He manages the colonies and apiary sites, providing the ‘science’ when it comes to the honey production and beeswax refining.

His beekeeping passion started in his early teens working on a local farm assisting with honey extraction from the farmers small scale honey production colonies. 40 years later, Brett rekindled his childhood passion taking the hobby much more seriously, running a small apiary site at a local allotment for a couple of years, whilst training in the basics of beekeeping husbandry. Currently our home apiary is based in Belstead, south Suffolk, with apiary site expansion planned for the coming seasons.

Brett is always looking to expand his beekeeping knowledge both academically and practically. Whether it’s attending local beekeeping association events, fetes or local markets. He is always keen to learn and pass on knowledge and experiences to anyone who is willing to listen.

Sharons role is everything else. Working full time, Sharon supports the business in any way she can, from honey extraction, packaging, advertising, promotion and organising events – as well as organising Brett. Sharon has even been known to don a bee suit as well!

Whilst Sharon does not hold any formal beekeeping qualifications, her passion and enthusiasm for the bees, more than makes up for it.

She is always looking for new locations and events to showcase our honey and beeswax products, cultivating new business relationships along the way and is always a friendly face to stop and have a chat about all things bee related.
